The Life You Safe May Be Your Own

Today we took a test on the story “The Life You Save May Be Your Own.” Honestly, I doubt that I did well because I haven't been paying attention that much this week, and I've missed 2 days. I hope that I can at least get a 75 percent.

Today I worked on the vocabulary test. These words can be very helpful for me on the SAT so I'm glad we’re learning them. I really want to do well on the SAT, so I've been making prep plans so I can succeed.

Today we took a quiz. I put a lot of effort into my constructed responses, so I hope I did well on them. The multiple choice confused me a little bit, but I still think I did okay.

Today we read the poem Birches by Robert Frost and it reminded me that many people wish to go back in time. When we were children, we had little to no responsibilities and life was much easier. Instead of dwelling over the past, we should try to participate in activities that remind us of better times.

Today we read the poem “I, Too”. It opened my eyes to discrimination in America and how some people have to fight to be included as an American citizen. The lines “They’ll see how beautiful I am, And be ashamed” really resonated with me.

Today we read the poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes. I learned that life isn’t easy but you shouldn’t give up even when it seems hard. There are many obstacles that we are bound to encounter, but we have to overcome them.

Reading Our Poems 10/6

Today we read our poems and it was one of my favorite things that we've done in class. Everyone got to unleash their own creativity, and it was nice to hear from everyone. I originally wrote a poem about love, but I wanted to change things up so I wrote a poem about coming out of my shell. I feel like that concept could apply to everyone since a lot of people struggle with opening themselves up to opportunities because they may feel scared.

10/5

Today we wrote poems and I tried really hard on mine. I thought about what I was going through and the series of heartbreak I had to go through lately. I tried my best to write from the heart but make sure all my lines rhymed. It may be a little deep but I feel like my peers will enjoy it tomorrow.

Today we watched the live-action version of Fences. It was fun to spot the differences and see the actors portray the different characters. It felt like I could really feel the pain that Rose. I even began to dislike Troy even more for how he treated his family.

The End of Fences (10/3)

Yesterday we read the end of Fences. It wasn't a bad ending, but I feel bad for Rose. She basically has to take care of a child that is not hers by herself after Troy died. Rose had to endure a lot of pain throughout the story. It seems like she gave so much but received little in return.
